NOT ALL MENSTRUAL DISCS ARE CREATED EQUAL

Switch to femdisc and experience the next level of menstrual care.

Introducing a revolutionary menstrual disc with a unique removal tab and an easy-to-grip notch. femdisc is already renowned across Europe especially germany as leader for its unmatched comfort, 12-hour wear time, and superior leak protection.

How Does It Work?

Say goodbye to interrupted sleep. With femdisc, you can live life to the fullest without worrying about your period.

Unlike tampons or menstrual cups, femdisc sits in the vaginal fornix, leaving your vaginal canal free—potentially reducing cramps.

Thanks to the special finger notch and removal tab, removal is easier and less messy—or even mess-free. Using femdisc has never been simpler! Its ultra-thin, soft reservoir combined with a sturdy rim ensures perfect placement and effortless insertion.

femdisc collects your menstrual flow instead of absorbing it.

Since femdisc doesn’t rely on suction and rests behind the pubic bone, it’s an ideal option for people with bladder sensitivities, a weak pelvic floor, or anyone seeking period care that stays in place during sex.

Try both sizes to find your perfect fit or to adapt to cervical height changes throughout your cycle.

Why Do Customers Love It?

femdisc doesn’t promote the growth of harmful bacteria that cause infections. Say goodbye to unwanted odors—femdisc is made from 100% medical-grade silicone and won’t trap smells.

With a wear time of up to 12 hours, you can do everything you love during your period: swim, sleep, squat, climb mountains, or even have sex—all while wearing femdisc.

Will It Fit Me?

When you pinch the disc in the middle to insert it, it’s about the same width as a tampon. It sits comfortably in the vaginal fornix at the end of the vaginal canal, just below the cervix, collecting menstrual flow.

The best way to determine your size is by measuring the height of your cervix:

  • For a low cervix, we recommend the femdisc small.
  • For an average to high cervix, the femdisc regular is likely the better fit.

How to Measure Your Cervix Height

You can feel your cervix by inserting a clean finger into your vaginal opening. The cervix is at the end of the vaginal canal and feels like a small, smooth circle (similar to pursed lips).

If you have a higher cervix, squatting can make it easier to reach. If you reach the end of your vaginal canal and can’t go further, you’ve found your cervix.

  • If your cervix is more than 5.5 cm high or hard to reach, you likely have a high cervix.
  • During your period, the cervix sits lower but moves higher during fertile days.

Still Unsure?

Try both sizes to find your perfect fit or if your cervix height changes during your cycle. With femdisc, you’re sure to find a comfortable and secure solution!

Hands-Free Emptying - 101

What is Hands-Free Emptying?
Also known as "self-emptying" or "automatic emptying," this happens when your pelvic floor muscles contract and temporarily shift the disc, allowing excess blood to flow into the toilet.

How Do I Perform Hands-Free Emptying?

For some, self-emptying happens every time they use the bathroom. For others, it only occurs on heavier days—or not at all. If it does happen, it’s a unique benefit of using menstrual discs.

Here’s how it works:
When your pelvic floor muscles press downward, they can cause the rim of the disc to momentarily shift. This lets excess blood flow into the toilet due to the angle of the disc. Properly inserted, the disc rests in the vaginal fornix and stays in place by hooking behind the pubic bone. Since every body is different, the experience may vary. If you can self-empty, it’s a bonus feature of the disc!

To self-empty, push downward with your pelvic muscles while on the toilet. Wondering what "push downward" means? It’s the same motion you use with those muscles when trying to have a bowel movement. This action shifts the disc slightly and allows fluid to flow into the toilet.

How Do I Prevent Hands-Free Emptying During Activities Like Sneezing or Laughter?

Great question! When properly inserted and secured behind the pubic bone, the femdisc won’t leak. Self-emptying occurs only when your pelvic muscles move specifically to empty your bladder, as these are isolated muscles activated during bathroom use. Activities like squatting, exercising, coughing, or laughing don’t engage these muscles, so your femdisc will stay in place.

If you have a heavier flow day or are concerned about leaks, we recommend emptying the disc before engaging in physical activity. For extra peace of mind, you can wear period underwear or a panty liner as a backup.

How Do I Reposition the Disc After Self-Emptying?

After some fluid has emptied, many users find the disc naturally returns to position as they stand up or perform 1–2 Kegel exercises. Kegels activate the muscles that push the disc back into place.

If you’re new to self-emptying or want extra assurance, you can insert a clean finger to check and manually adjust the disc into position.

How to Clean femdisc

Taking proper care of your femdisc will extend its lifespan and keep it clean and fresh for years. Here’s our recommendation:

During Your Period

Remove, empty, and clean your reusable disc at least once every 12 hours. Start by washing your hands and using mild soap or a cleaning solution.

Rinse with Cold Water: This helps prevent odors and discoloration of the medical-grade silicone.

Switch to Warm Water: Add a few pumps of cleaning solution and massage the entire surface of the disc, including both sides of the rim, with your fingers.

Rinse Thoroughly: Ensure all soap is removed.

Dry Completely: Shake off excess water or let the disc air dry before reinserting.

If storing until your next period, make sure the disc is fully dry before storing it in its provided pouch. Never store your femdisc in an airtight container.

Monthly Sanitization

With a Sterilizer

Fill the sterilizer with water. If the water is hard, add a few drops of white vinegar.

Microwave the sterilizer for 4 minutes.

Use the sterilizer's heat-safe grips to remove it from the microwave, then place your disc inside for 5–10 minutes. Your femdisc is now ready for use.

With a Pot

Heat a pot of water on the stove.

Submerge the disc and let it boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom of the pot (which could melt the silicone).

Remove the disc and let it cool completely before drying and storing.

Important Notes

Do Not Use femdisc During Infections: Never wear femdisc if you have a yeast infection or any other vaginal bacterial infection. Resume use only after complete recovery.

Discard After Use During Infections: If femdisc was used during a yeast or bacterial infection, remove it immediately and dispose of it. Do not attempt to clean and reuse it.

By following these steps, you’ll ensure your femdisc remains hygienic and ready for every cycle!

Got Questions? We've Got Answers!

Many femdisc users have IUDs! femdisc menstrual discs are designed to be IUD-friendly as they don’t rely on suction to stay in place. However, we recommend consulting your gynecologist before using femdisc if you have an IUD. They can provide guidance specific to your anatomy and may adjust the IUD strings if necessary.

Yes! The disc forms a seal at the base of your cervix, offering a "barely-there" feel and allowing you to move comfortably all day—even during exercise or swimming.

Self-emptying only occurs when the pelvic muscles used for bladder emptying are activated. These muscles are isolated and won’t be triggered during workouts, squats, sneezing, or other activities, keeping your femdisc securely in place.

Inserting femdisc:

  1. Wash your hands and clean the reusable femdisc with warm water and femdisc cleanser or mild soap.
  2. Pinch the disc in the middle into an "8" shape to make insertion easier.
  3. Choose a position: Sit on the toilet, squat with knees apart, or place one leg on the toilet seat.
  4. Relax your pelvic muscles and use your free hand to gently separate your labia.
  5. Insert the pinched disc into your vaginal canal, aiming down and back toward your tailbone. Push it as far as comfortably possible.
  6. Use your thumb or index finger to tuck the front rim behind your pubic bone. Once properly placed, you shouldn’t feel the disc internally.

Tips During Use:

  • Some initial leaking may occur as you adjust to positioning the disc. It may take a few cycles to perfect placement.
  • Worried about overflow? You can self-empty on the toilet by pushing down with your pelvic muscles (as if having a bowel movement) to shift the disc slightly and release some blood. Then use a clean finger to reposition it behind the pubic bone.
  • After each bathroom visit, check with a clean finger to ensure the disc is still correctly placed.

Removing femdisc:

  1. Wash your hands and sit on the toilet, relaxing your pelvic muscles.
  2. Hook your finger (thumb with the nail facing up, or index finger with the nail facing down) under the disc’s rim.
  3. Pull straight out, keeping the rim parallel to the floor to avoid spills. If needed, gently push down with your pelvic muscles to assist removal.
  4. Empty the contents into the toilet and follow the cleaning steps to reinsert your femdisc.

Taking good care of your femdisc will extend its lifespan and keep it clean and fresh for years. Here’s our advice:

During your period, remove, empty, and clean your reusable disc at least once every 12 hours. Start with clean hands and use a mild soap or cleaning solution (like the femdisc Foam Cleaner).

First, rinse your disc with cold water—this helps prevent odors and discoloration of the medical-grade silicone. Then switch to warm water and add a few pumps of cleaner. Use your fingers to massage the entire surface of the disc, including both sides of the rim, and rinse thoroughly.

Shake off excess water or let the disc air dry before reinserting.

If storing your disc until your next period, make sure it is completely dry before putting it away. Store femdisc in a cool, dry place using the provided pouch. Never store your disc in an airtight container.

Once a month, it’s a good idea to boil your femdisc to sanitize it. Bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove. Place the disc in the water and let it boil for 10 minutes, keeping a close eye on it and stirring occasionally to ensure it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom of the pot (which could melt the silicone). Remove the disc and allow it to cool and dry completely before storing.

Important Note: Never use femdisc while you have a vaginal or bacterial infection. Wait until the infection is completely resolved before resuming use. If the disc was used during a yeast or bacterial infection, remove it immediately and dispose of it. Do not attempt to clean and reuse a disc that was worn during an infection.
